Measuring Law and Institutions : 2nd Workshop

Purpose of the workshop:

The workshop aims at, on a multidisciplinary basis:

  • Taking stock of the several research going on in the field of the indicators on the effect of law or, more generally, institutions on economic development;
  • Comparing methodologies used;
  • Identifying methodological difficulties;
  • Assessing the needs in terms of data availability, standardization of statistics, etc.
  • Confronting the several teams producing such indicators;
  • Building a common approach between lawyers and economists;
  • Taking stock, at the stage of the interpretation of these indicators, of researches addressing the relationships between institutions and economic development through the use of such indicators;

This second workshop will gather a number of academics (1) who have constructed indicators of their own or (2) who have developed innovative methodologies to use the availlabe data or (3) who have criticized some of the indicators currently used. It will, hence, focus on the methodological challenges in the construction of quantitative approaches of law, institutions and there socio-economic impacts.
